Plot summary:
- A virtuous wife, Amanda, is driven to carry out a last "shift" or trick in order to retain her rakish, out-of-control husband Loveless. Loveless has been away for ten years drinking and consorting with whores and does not recognize his wife when he returns to London.
- Amanda acts as a high-class prostitute and tricks Loveless into her luxurious house and treats him to the night of his dreams. She confesses her true identity in the morning and impresses Loveless so much by her faithfulness that he immediately reforms.
- Sir Novelty Fashion is a fop character who flirts with all the women but is more interested in his own appearance and witticisms.
