Summary:
- Arthur Shelby wants to sell off Uncle Tom and Harry, the son of his wife's maid Eliza, to a slave trader to pay off his debts.
- Eliza takes Harry and flees to the North under the pursuit of a slave hunter, Tom Loker. However they arrive in a safe Quaker settlement where they are joined by Eliza's husband George. They agree to go to Canada, via the Underground Railroad.
- Uncle Tom is sold and taken by the slave trader to a slave market. On the boat he meets a young white girl Eva whom he saves from drowning. In gratitude, Eva's father, Augustine St. Clare, buys Tom from Haley and takes him to work in their family home in New Orleans.
- George shoots Tom Loker when he corners him and his family on their attempt to reach Canada.
- Eva dies from illness and Augustine St. Clare dies in a bar fight before he gets to free Uncle Tom. St. Clare's wife, Marie, sells Tom to a vicious plantation owner, Simon Legree.
- Tom meets Cassy, Legree's slave, who was previously separated from her daughter as Legree had sold her. Cassy and Emmeline, another slave, escape and Legree beats Tom to near death.
- George Shelby, Arthur Shelby's son, arrives with money to buy Tom's freedom, but he is too late, and Tom dies.
- Cassy and Emmeline meet George and Eliza, and Cassy realizes that Eliza is her long-lost daughter. They all travel to Liberia, the African nation created for former American slaves.
