Irish Literary Revival

  • begun by Lady Gregory, Edward Martyn and William Butler Yeats in 1896
  • stimulated new appreciation of traditional Irish literature and also encourage the creation of works written in the spirit of Irish culture
  • The Abbey Theatre - symbol of literary revival
  • figures involved wrote plays and articles about political state of Ireland at the time
  • they include:
    • J.M. Synge
    • William Butler Yeats
    • Sean O'Casey
    • Oscar Wilde
