- "Churchyard Poets" or "Graveyard Poets" is a term applied to a number of English poets in the 1740s-1790s who wrote in the vein of Thomas Gray's "Elegy in a Country Churchyard"
- sometimes called pre-Romantics
- each writes about melancholy, and each shows and interest in nature
- also an interest in "ancient" English poetic forms and folk poetry
